Making an old home more energy efficient while preserving the character

   It’s counterproductive and a waste of money to try to make old into new.    Your historic home is like the “Mona Lisa”.  Go to every possible length to keep her original, but show her off and enjoy her.  Many of these homes were made for entertaining since there was little else to do for fun in the home back then, transportation was slow, and people of means had servants to handle all the work in the home.

New things look “odd”,  “not right”, even sad,  to the trained eye in old homes.  People who appreciate old homes look for the old woodwork, old cast radiators, hardwood floors, and so on.  Preserve that historic home as the many owners before you have done ).
