Thermostat Switcheroo

I love coming home to a warm house.  I love waking up in a warm house.  I do not, however, relish in what it costs to indulge in such things.  No sir.  I would rather not feel my toes and hustle from room to room, wrapped in a down comforter with a nose reminiscent of Rudolph – than foot a Senate-sized heating bill.

And so we opted to upgrade our cheap-o Totaline thermostat to a programmable model, and we went with this one:

It was a bittersweet relationship.  And with a penchant for battery-related errors and a not-so-user-friendly personality (at least when it comes to programming), I knew I had to break things off.

The tragedy was short lived, thanks much in part to the friendly folks at Lowes.  Twenty minutes of DIY electrical wiring later, this beauty picked up where it’s lesser prequel left off.

Thanks to custom programming, our humble abode warms up when I rise and is keeping me toasty as I fall asleep, without spending the extra bucks to maintain the heat in between.  Score!

And it was easy-peasy to program.  It only took as long as deciding which hours and what temperature settings I wanted to program, and voila, we were good to go.  It was a total piece of cake, and definitely on my would-recommend list!

To perform your own thermostat swap, simply turn the power off, disconnect the wires from the existing thermostat, then reconnect to the new model.  The wires should be colored, or at least have tags with the names of colors attached, making the switch pretty simple.  Just be certain everything is secure before you mount the new model and and flip the power back on :) Calling all artsy-fartsy types with an eye for the adorable and a penchant for whimsical and inspiring design. The standard Wordpress templates are a little lackluster and uninspiring to say the least. I want a banner and some quirky personalization around here that screams "Me!" If this is you or someone you know, send them my way!
