There’s always one. This has got to be one of the funniest things in a long time. I think this guy should have been promoted, not fired. This is a true story from the Word Perfect Helpline, which was transcribed from a recording monitoring the customer care department. Needless to say the Help Desk employee was fired; however, he/she is currently suing the Word Perfect organization for “Termination without Cause”. Head of Department at Uni asked me to teach him how to use a computer.
It took around five days, even after I’d written every single stage down, for him to be able to switch the thing on unaided.
Another three days (again with written prompts) to open Word. I had, by this time, decided that I wasn’t going to try anything as complicated as Excel…
When he, finally managed to open Word I told him he could start typing. He did – then called me over to ask what he was doing wrong: “Why isn’t it putting the spaces in between my words?” ….
At that point, I gave up…
