Heavy duty productI have recently purchased this Jump Starter and I am extremely impressed by the sturdiness of the product and all the little applications it has. You only need a regular outside extention cord to charge it, no adapter to keep up with. That in itself is 5 stars. It has a DC adapter for the cigarette lighter but that is easily tied to the handle. Now if it will just jump my battery the once in a blue moon I will need it, it will have been well worth the money I paid for it.
Ask for a NEW one!
I recieved the product and it was apparently one that someone had returned. The item was scuffed up, there was battery corrosion on one of the jumper handles, the packaging was torn and loosley re-wrapped. Everything seemed to be working, but this was the worst experience that I have had with Amazon.
works great
I had to use this already and it worked great. I like how the postive and negive clamps clamp to the box so they aren't free. The light for the air compressor is great too. When you are in the dark the light on the side is handy to have.
Great jump starter-has come in handy on multiple occasions
I bought this due to my van draining the battery and it also helped out a teenage girl stranded at a gas station. Very easy to use.
Good multipurpose jump starter
Lots of features. The air pump is quite noisy, though. My unit came with the DC cable completely cracked and unusable, but I kept it anyway. Make sure you keep it plugged in to be fully-charged for at least 15 hours. I haven't needed it yet, but hopefully it won't let me down when I need.

Remarkable
Bought for my husband as a gift and he takes it everywhere. Used it 2X's to rescue boats on the lake. Keeps our car tires inflated. Handy for bikes and rafts. It's a GREAT piece of machinery!! Worth the investment!!
A useful and effective portable jump starter
This review is for the Black & Decker JUS500IB 500 Amp Jump Starter with Inflator
I received this last week, plugged it in to charge the battery, and planned to leave it in the garage. I wasn't planning on writing a review until I used it, until this morning when I needed jump-start my car because "someone" left the lights on overnight. Sure enough, I put this baby to work immediately and the engine started (no surprise there).
What I was surprised about was that I needed to connect both the positive and negative to their respective terminals. At first, I connected the negative clamp to the chasis (like how I would normally jump a car), but my car would not start. I tried several places along the non-painted metal frame part and even the engine block of the dead car to no avail. As a last resort, I connected it to the bolt of the negative post (while wearing eye protection), and the car started. I know this is a no-no, but nothing else worked, and I needed to go to work. I'll troubleshoot at a later time (or most likely never). (Minus half-star)
Now, I keep it in the trunk, just in case. It has a nice compact body, so it does not take up much space. I like the light on the unit, but it is also a bit awkward to use (it points UP, rather than down), so I had to hold the unit upside down to see what I was doing. I have yet to use the inflator, so I have nothing to contribute about it. I did try it, and it seems to work. The compartment for the hose is awkward (behind a small plastic door underneath), but at least the hose is stored and not dangling around.
It does not come with an extension cord, which is required for charging. Luckily, I had one available, but it would have been nice to have come with one (even a six-footer would be nice). (Minus half star)
Overall, a very nice portable jump starter. I have a project car that constantly needs a jump, so this will come in handy. For those who do not anticipate to use it a lot, this unit may be a bit overkill, and there are other smaller and cheaper alternatives. Highly recommended. Will update in a few months.

Useful tool - But inflator died suddenly
So far this unit has performed well. I used it to jump-start a raggedy old farm tractor, and the little box seems to have an impressive amount of cranking power (for short bursts, anyway).
I've used the inflator twice to inflate a car and a truck tire. Takes awhile to get a tire up to pressure, but's that's normal with these little compressors. For it's size, it's quite adequate as an emergency air source. Took me about 8 minutes to bring the car tire up from 25 PSI to 45 PSI (under the weight of the vehicle). Really not that bad.
The truck tire took a bit longer, as I had to stop the unit to let it cool down. B&D recommends running the inflator for no more than 10 minutes continuously. Total time to bring this nearly-flat tire up to pressure: Just under a half-hour. Again, not too shabby considering how small this thing is.
I like the layout of the controls and indicators. Clear, easy to read, easy to access. Storage for the jumper cables is OK. I'd prefer to see them stowed in a sealed compartment, but they seem pretty secure. Keep the clamps clean, and there shouldn't be any issues storing this in a car.
Storage for the inflator hose is cheesy. It's stuffed into a tiny compartment, and you have to really bend the hose in order to get it inside. The maximum length of the air hose is about 2 feet. You must set the unit very close to the tire for the hose to reach the valve. Not a problem for me so far, but keep this in mind if you need a unit with a long reach. B&D could have done better here.
A major gripe I have is that the inflator has no provision for a backup power source. Depending on how long the internal battery will remain charged in storage, you might find it lacks the juice to power the unit in an emergency. Why couldn't B&D include a 12V cigarette adaptor for this situation? For a unit that's supposed to be a piece of emergency gear, this seems like a glaring oversight. You'd better hope that the internal battery is extremely reliable - without it, the unit is useless. Could have been a five-star rating if not for that issue.
Overall, I'm pleased with this purchase. Reliability will be the ultimate test, and it's still too early to pass judgement. If it holds up season after season, and delivers the goods when really needed, I may change my rating to 5 stars. For under 100 bucks, I'd say give it a try.
UPDATE: 12 Jan 2010
The inflator died on me, with less than 4 hours total runtime. The motor was cranking away, but there was no air pressure at all. Brought it to a B&D service center, and paid $15 to have a new one shipped to my home. No hassle at all returning the unit, and the replacement is working as advertised - so far. Maybe I just got a lemon, so I'm not going to downgrade the rating at this time. Will check back at a later date.

Black & Decker jump starterI like the compact size of this unit. It fits in a perfect storage place in my mini van. The charged indicating and test lights are handy. It has held a full charge since I've had it (about 2 months). I thought not being able to recharge it on dc would be a problem but it hasn't. I would recommend it. I have used it only once to start a dead car and it worked fine.
Black & Decker JUS500B 500 Amp Jump Starter
The JUS500B is all it is advertised to be. The only drawbacks are that it is heavy for a portable emergency starter battery, it sits on the ground flat and will not store or stand upright at all (round bottom end) and it does not come with an electrical cord for charging. If not for these (non-operational) drawbacks, I would give it a five star review.
Good Product
I purchased this Jump starter for a vehicle that I rarely drive, and it works as advertised. My only complaint is that it does not come with a power cord. You will need to supply your own quality power cord to charge this unit, not a big deal really. I charged it out of the box and have it used it twice to jump cold dead cars and it does the job. Quality parts and construction are obvious, the clamp cables are a tad short but it was just long enough to reach terminals. It is my understanding that these type of products need to be used, depleted of power, and then charged again several times a year or they will experience problems. I plan to use this jump starter often and now even carry it in my car for that unexpected need.

Works great.I had a battery that only provided enough power to make a click when turning the key. I ordered this, charged it for a day and hooked it to my battery. Finding the proper grounding spot is critical. I was alerted to the fact that I found a good ground finally after the 2004 Nissan Frontier Pickup's interior lights came on and the ding (key in ignition with open door) started blaring. The truck started right up.
I then later used it to start a battery in a 2000 Mustang. The battery was very drained and the car would not start, similar to the above scenario. Found the ground spot and the car started. After plugging the device back up, in less than an hour it was fully recharged.
I recommend a standard orange extension cord for this. The male end in the charger is recessed and you'll need a cord with an inline female socket that will plug directly in.
Easy to use, and helped me a few times
I purchased this product in 2007 and used it several times. It works although a few adjustments should be made.
a) don't know when the product is out of product or needs a charge.
b) male power socket should allow for more room for female plugs
c) car charger is rather useless since it takes about 4-8 hrs to get a full charge.
But it.. but maintain it by charging it very month or three to make sure you have it ready to go. It is truly a life savor when you need it.
Does Exactly as Advertised
I have had to use this product several times already in the cold weather. It works great i have been able to get multiple jumps off of a single charge.
Works great, and better than any I've owned before.
I give the IP-125 4 stars. The pros are that it works as advertised in giving instant power. I've owned other jump starters from Auto Shack like places and even on a full charge, either I would have to wait a while after turning them on or they would not jump larger cars. I just received my IP-125 a few days ago and had to jump my SUV. Ignition turned within seconds! My only gripe, and maybe mine is different from another reviewer, but there is no on/off switch on the unit. The red button in the picture is for checking the charge. So when storing it, you are warned not to let the live clamps touch or there will be arcs! Maybe thats the beauty of its operation but I take one star for not having this safety feature.
A few problems
This little jump starter does work. I've used it twice so far to start my Grand Marquis when the battery was almost completely drained. You need to have a very good connection for the ground or it will pop when you crank the engine. It took me a couple tries to find a good spot.
This thing is completely useless out of the box without a power cord. Someone mentioned using a computers power supply cord but that does not work. Maybe the unit has changed, I tried 5 or so different computer cords and none of them would fit. So make sure you get an extension cord.
After the first use it started acting strange with the lights (showing red + green) so I just pressed the reset button a few times and let it recharge overnight and everything was back to normal.
I give it 4 stars because it is so small and starts my V8, if it came with a power cord it would get 5.

Defective Would not charge
Normally when a battery powered item goes bad it is a sign that it has been sitting in inventory too long and you will need to buy new batteries for the product in order for it to work properly.
This is a bad thing when the whole product basically consists of one very large battery as does this.
But there is hope based upon the recent review which precedes this one, I will give it a second chance by requesting a replacement as opposed to a refund.
I will return to green light it or steer you clear but by then the discount will probably be gone. If not I would be very suspicious as to why not.
These are very versatile items when they work, but I do not know them to last very long as they are in storage more often than they are in use.
I would imagine you want to charge these once every 3-4 months whether you use it or not as when these batteries fully deplete, they cannot be recharged.
Great Product!
I was extremely satisfied with the 400 watt power dome I purchased. So I bought this Power Dome LT for my daughter's birthday and she loves it too! She always keeps her electronics charged and ready to go. She uses the USB power port for her digital camera and MP3 player. Plus the AC and DC outlets power her cell phone and other appliances.
Her Power Dome LT weighs a few pounds less than mine so she can carry it around easily. She keeps it in her trunk in case of an emergency. If she ever has car trouble, I know she is prepared to jumpstart the car or inflate a tire. The LED lights are a nice feature too. I have peace of mind knowing she is ok when she is away from home.
