Diesel Fleet - Update
- In use as RSR running shed pilot, whilst Stanlow undergoes repairs.Cold weather has caused the batteries to be flattened several times with the exceptional cold weather. A faulty charging regulator has been replaced and seems to be allowing the alternator to re-charge the batteries when running for a while. A 300Hour service is due, and will be undertaken once Stanlow is available again. - Many obsolete air valves and pipes are being removed from the loco, from it's days as a multiple fitted loco. A replacement hydra vane compressor is required to provided air to work the train brakes. Work to sort clutch and direction changing is currently in progress by a former service engineer who worked for Thomas Hill. Some paintwork has been undertaken, but still to cold to finish loco. April seems a likely target date for completion of work. - After running the bitumen trains on it's own from mid summer until Enterprise re-entered traffic, it was found the brakes were on maximum adjustment. After several weeks stored awaiting replacements, new blocks were fitted in mid February and loco reinstated to traffic. When time and weather permits a repaint into RR blue is planned. - After the discovery of a seized engine governor and lack of response from the starter motors when the local start button was operated, all hope for a start before the end of last year was postponed. The owner suffering from a medical condition and not helped by the exceptional cold weather, it was late January before work recommenced to free of the governor. After gentle persuasion with a hammer,WD 40 and much polishing of moving surfaces it came free again. With throttle linkages refitted, my attention turned to my wiring of the starters which checked against D2595's and appeared to be correct. Russell volunteered his electrical skills to find poor contact faces on the right hand starter which in turn feeds the left hand starter solenoid circuits, after cleaning and holding...
